ISO 45001 certification
Improve health and safety management for a more productive and sustainable business. What is ISO 45001 certification?
ISO 45001 specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system. This is intended to improve the safety and health of both employees and other personnel.
Introduced in March 2018, ISO 45001 requirements marked a significant step forward in the global effort to improve health and safety management. It supersedes all previous occupational health and safety standards, including OHSAS 18001. TÜV SÜD’s ISO 45001 certification enables organisations to proactively improve injury prevention and reduce ill-health.
Why ISO 45001 certification is important
Although ISO 45001 was a completely new standard, its foundations already existed in its predecessor, OHSAS 18001. This means that companies that already actively apply an OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system can expect a smooth transition to ISO 45001.
Key improvements to ISO 45001 requirements
Implements the "high level structure"
A common framework with other management systems, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Emphasis senior management responsibility
Already implemented in the revised ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 standards.
Explicitly includes persons who are not permanently employed
Those working under the responsibility of the organisation, such as subcontractors and processes outsourced in their entirety are included.
Introduces the term “opportunities”
Introduces “opportunities” as a new aspect in occupational health and safety management. Covers issues that go beyond the mere elimination or minimisation.
