MEXICO: IFT GRAPHIC LABEL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPROVED TELECOMMUNICATIONS PRODUCTS

APRIL 2024 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS

On 26 December 2023, The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) in Mexico published the Guidelines for IFT Label of the approved telecommunications or broadcasting products in Agreement P/IFT/131223/733, 2023.

The guideline mainly adds a graphic element to the marking or labelling for easy recognition, and establish the procedures and provisions for the approval of products, equipment, devices or apparatus intended for telecommunications or broadcasting that can be connected to a telecommunications network or make use of the radio spectrum.

These Homologation Guidelines establish in their Thirty-eighth guideline, which is part of Chapter IX "On the IFT Password", the following:

Thirty-eighth. To denote that a Product is approved, the Holder of an Approval Certificate must comply with the marking or label requirements of the Institute and the Approval number set forth below:

Each Approved product must have a physical or electronic marking or labeling, which must contain at least the following:

  • The number of the current Approval Certificate.
  • The Certificate of Approval number must be preceded by the prefix "IFT" in capital letters on a single line and must be legible without the aid of magnification or magnification.

The holder of an Approval Certificate and, where applicable, affiliates, subsidiaries and importers, must make use of the IFT Seal respecting at all times the specifications established below:

  1. The IFT Seal must be printed in 100% positive black or 100% negative black, respecting the protection areas and minimum printing dimensions as defined in Figure 1.
  2. The IFT Stamp must be legible without the aid of magnification or magnification, and easily visible to the end user, considering the minimum print dimensions.

  3. In the marking or labeling of approved Products, the IFT Seal must be included, in addition to the prefix "IFT" in capital letters and the number of the Approval Certificate provided for in the Thirty-eighth guideline of the Approval Guidelines, as shown below. The holder of an Approval Certificate and, where applicable, affiliates, subsidiaries and importers may use the vertical or horizontal version of the elements of the marking or labelling (IFT Seal, IFT prefix in capital letters and Approval Certificate number) on the approved Products, respecting the minimum printing dimensions of the IFT Seal.

  4. The IFT Seal may not be used alone in isolation or as a substitute for the provisions of the Thirty-eighth Guideline of the Homologation Guidelines. The use of the IFT Seal by the holder of an Approval Certificate and, where applicable, affiliates, subsidiaries and importers, shall in no way represent the transfer of rights over it.
  5. The holder of an Approval Certificate and, where applicable, affiliates, subsidiaries and importers must make use of the IFT Seal in the marking or labeling of approved Products, only during the validity of the Approval Certificate that covers the products.

These guidelines will enforce on 23 June 2024.
