EU: REACH - ECHA has added Triphenyl Phosphate to the candidate list for Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC)

NOVEMBER 2024 - ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS, HARDLINES, SOFTLINES, TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS

On 7 November 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) added one new Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) into the Candidate List1, bringing the total number of SHVCs on the list to 2422.

Triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) was proposed to be identified as an SVHC during the 31st public consultation of Candidate List. However, the Member State Committee (MSC) could not reach a consensus and it failed to be identified as an SVHC in in June 2024. After further discussion during the meeting in October 2024, the MSC unanimously agreed to identify TPhP as an SVHC and confirmed the addition to the Candidate List.

Table A gives the substance name, identification numbers (CAS and EC), the reason for inclusion and the potential applications.
