Certification mark for furniture
Scope:
The certification mark applies to furniture which is tested for critical chemical compounds.
Basis of certification:
The certification mark is based on EU Directives (REACH Regulation for the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals, testing for substances of very high concerns (SVHC), PAH Directive regarding the testing and evaluation for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons etc.), Toy Safety Directive, Chemical Prohibition Ordinance, Hazardous Substances Ordinance, the German Food and Feed Code and the Product Safety Act. All materials used in the item of furniture are analysed for their properties and for compliance with legal requirements, regulations and EU Directives. Within the scope of testing, the entire item of furniture is first analysed in a test chamber under controlled conditions for possible emission of chemical compounds into the Environment.
Subsequently, chemical analyses for further substances that cannot be identified in the test chamber will be conducted. These analyses depend on the material and type of use of the item. The scope of testing depends on the intended use of the item of furniture.
Key words of the certification mark:
Production monitored
As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD Product Service verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product testing.
In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will become invalid and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
Tested for harmful substances
Testing is based on legal requirements and, in some instances, is stricter than legal requirements (see Basis of certification)
