Preparing to Export Equipment to the European/UK Market

Equipment manufacturers are experts in American standards like those outlined by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). But gaining access to European markets takes keen understanding of a wide variety of different regulations and laws.

Schedule a pre-compliance roundtable to learn about the specific regulations, timelines, and necessary documentation. Our compliance experts will offer step-by-step instructions about each directive that applies to your equipment. They will also explain milestones and identify problems that may take your exporting project off track.

To sell in Europe, you must comply with the following:

Pressure Equipment (PED for EU and PE(S)R for UK). The PED 2014/68/EU provides mandatory guidance for the design, manufacturing, and conformity assessment of pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure above 0.5 bar or 7.25 psi.

Construction Products Regulation (CPR for EU and CPR for UK). This regulation provides guidance on the safe manufacturing of cable products intended for use in construction projects like buildings or civil engineering.

Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX / UKEX). This directive covers equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The directive defines the essential health and safety requirements and conformity assessment procedures, to be applied before products are placed on the EU market (ATEX) or the UK market (UKEX).

Schedule a Pre-Compliance Support Roundtable to Learn:

  • The requirements for exporting equipment under the aforementioned EU Directives, including hidden nuances that only a savvy expert would be aware of.
  • How to mitigate risks at the onset rather than later in the cycle.
  • Organization and preparation of all necessary documentation.
  • Learn how to comply with local government regulations upon clearing customs.

Schedule of Events

Day 1:

  • Learn the fundamentals of each directive.
  • Obtain broadscale overview of how to export equipment to Europe.
  • Understand which standards are compatible to each equipment class.
  • Navigate the specifics for materials, manufacturing, welding and much more. We explain how to read the standards, interpret the clauses, and find what applies to your business.

Day 2:

  • Discussions on your specific projects and unique drive to gain access to the European market.
  • Gather the right documentation and be sure that it’s prepared in accordance with government standards. Discuss government standards and outline relevant documentation that is required to comply.
  • Learn which standards apply to your specific project, and the equipment you are producing.
  • Identify and solve plausible problems early in the projects lifecycle, that would otherwise go unnoticed. Dissect the project into phases and label them with checkpoints, add a milestone to each checkpoint to ensure continuous progression towards your end goal.
