In addition to AS9100, the primary aerospace quality management standards currently in use include:
AS9110 is a quality management standard designed for aerospace maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) organizations.
It builds on ISO 9001 but adds requirements specific to aircraft safety, airworthiness, and regulatory compliance. AS9110 ensures maintenance providers follow strict processes that improve reliability, reduce errors, and maintain aviation safety.
The AS/EN 9110 standard puts special emphasis on the requirements critical to the maintenance of all aircraft. In addition to AS/EN 9100 requirements, this standard includes additional criteria for maintenance repair and overhaul facilities for organizations serving the industry. Some areas the standard covers are detection and prevention of unapproved and counterfeit parts, human factors, as well as safety management systems.
AS9120 is a quality management standard for aerospace distributors and stockists.
It is based on ISO 9001 but includes additional requirements for handling, storing, and distributing aerospace parts. AS9120 ensures traceability, reduces counterfeit risks, and improves supply chain reliability, making it essential for aerospace material suppliers.
The AS/EN 9120 standard focuses on product safety and reliability, and addresses critical product performance, conformity to specifications and airworthiness. It covers the chain of custody, traceability, stock control and availability of records as well.
AC 00-56B is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular that sets quality system standards for aircraft parts distributors.
It requires voluntary certification to ensure parts traceability, documentation, and reliability in the aerospace supply chain. AC 00-56B helps reduce counterfeit risks, strengthens supplier accountability, and supports regulatory compliance in aviation safety.
This circular outlines the Voluntary Industry Distributor Accreditation Program, a system designed for accrediting civil aircraft parts distributors through voluntary industry oversight. The primary goal of this program is to assist certified entities in establishing the eligibility of parts and products for installation on U.S. certified aircraft.
While the program is not mandatory, the FAA strongly endorses participation. Distributors who choose to participate must adhere to the processes and procedures detailed in the circular to be considered compliant.
