Omani Type Examination Certification Scheme

WHAT IS THE OMANI TYPE EXAMINATION CERTIFICATE SCHEME?

The Directorate General of Standards and Metrology (DGSM) of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman by Ministerial Decree 190/2021, has implemented Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances under the Omani Type Examination Certificate Scheme. Effective 5 June 2022, this regulation mandates that products subject to these rules must obtain certification from a Notified Body designated by the DGSM.

The scheme applies to manufacturers who export specific appliances to Oman. Regulated products in Stage 1 include:

• Dishwashers 
• Washing Machines (with a capacity exceeding 10kg and up to 25kg)
• Vacuum Cleaners

These products must undergo safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests, and manufacturers are required to prepare product design and risk analysis documentation.

The certification guarantees that electrical products comply with the essential safety and performance standards before they are released to the Omani market. The conformity certificates are valid for one year and require annual renewal.
