Ensure lift reliability through predictive maintenance and condition monitoring
Ensure lift reliability through predictive maintenance and condition monitoring
TÜV SÜD Lift Manager is an independent predictive maintenance and condition monitoring service that leverages on IoT know-how and TÜV SÜD's lift domain to support your lift operation and lift service maintenance.
An elevator predictive maintenance service can be used with lifts of any age, brand and model, including existing lift in service. It can also be used with a group of lifts with different brands and installation locations. The lifts’ data will be sent to a single platform and analysis will be done to detect anomalies, interpret defects and recommend actions to be taken based on Remaining Time to Downtime (RTD).
By having a predictive maintenance regime to anticipate the failure point of the lift components and replace these components before they fail, you can minimise the lift downtime and maximise the lifetime of the lift components. This will also greatly reduce the need for routine manual lift inspection and maintenance. Therefore, reducing the labour and maintenance costs in the long run. Using data collected over 30 years during lift inspection and certification, the predictive model can detect patterns and failure points with high accuracy.
Our experienced team behind the TÜV SÜD Lift Manager will support you in every aspect of the implementation. Need help or have any questions regarding elevator predictive maintenance? Get in touch with our team today.
Besides Lift Manager, TÜV SÜD also provides lift services such as conformity assessment certification, safety inspection, vertical transportation consulting, smart lift and other digital services. As an internationally established brand, TÜV SÜD can support your lift operation on a global scale. You can leverage on our world-class reputation and expertise to demonstrate your commitment to safety and reliability.
Lift sensors are installed to monitor lift health
Our expertise in functional safety for lift operation and lift service maintenance ensure that the locations of the lift sensors are carefully selected and safely integrated.
Our high accuracy predictive model algorithms analyses lift data to avoid possible lift failures
The high accuracy predictive lift model is based on more than 30 years of lift inspection and certification experience, with more than 300,000 inspection performed each year.
Monitor lift condition by anomalies detection, defects interpretation and recommended actions
Lift operation data is collected by the lift sensors and analysed in real time. TÜV SÜD Lift Manager’s predictive maintenance module prompts an alert to the dashboard according to Remaining Time to Downtime (RTD) when a potentially abnormal process is detected. This results in a more efficient lift maintenance regime, reduced lift failure rate and downtime.

Lift OEMs were initially apprehensive about Lift Manager as it provides transparency in lift maintenance and operations to their customers which has never been the case. However, since the roll out of Lift Manager, they begin to realise the benefits of predictive maintenance such as achieving a more efficient maintenance regime. Therefore, many OEMs have started to develop their own predictive maintenance solution but mostly limited to their own brand.
There are definitely conflict of interest for lift OEMs to extend such solution as predictive maintenance can potentially become the competition to their traditional maintenance services.
Each lift will be calibrated once during installation to take into consideration the lift and building profile. This is to avoid unnecessary alerts and to allow the predictive analysis model to work on any lifts regardless of the age, model, brand and installation.
MEMS sensors are being used to identify the lift movement and other operational profiles. However, Lift Manager is sensor agnostic. This means that it can be used with any sensor types. The current solution is designed to detect the most common failure types based on our failure tree library.
More sensors can always be added. However, more sensors means higher cost. Thus, we are always mindful to keep a good balance between the quantity of the sensors and the cost effectiveness of the solution.
There are minimal cyber security concerns as the devices installed on the car top will be authenticated for all transmission of lift data onto the cloud. The transmitted lift data can also be encrypted without data loss. In addition, the sensors and devices installed for the predictive maintenance solution are completely isolated from the lift components. Hence, it will not pose safety issue to the lift operation.
