Protecting the environment and natural resources
Protecting the environment and natural resources
"This next stage of our programme fully supports this goal by building an effective test and certification network that will drive the commercialisation of research and development ideas. This will help to make access to safe and sustainable sanitisation a reality for people in developing countries.”

Nearly 75% of the earth's surface has been transformed by human activities, forcing nature and species into an ever-smaller corner of the planet. Global warming, plastic and air pollutions, deforestation, ocean acidification, food and textile waste, depletion of resources are key challenges facing society today.
In the quest towards sustainability and conservation, 129 countries have committed to set voluntary targets to achieve land degradation neutrality. These targets have already been endorsed by governments in 71 nations. However, a significant change is still required to meet global environment conservation targets (e.g. 30% of Earth needs protection by 2030).
Businesses and organizations need to commit to environmental and forest friendly policies, put in place by governments or international organisations. For instance, to promote responsible management of forests, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification must be obtained to ensure processes and operations meet FSC standards. These certifications need to be obtained through independent third-party providers. Besides achieving compliance to environmental standards, manufacturers also need to ensure that their products, production processes and plant operations do not adversely affect human health or natural ecosystems. Businesses will also need to consider their emissions targets and implement effective carbon management programmes.
By putting effective conservation measures into practice, the push towards environmental conservation can be accomplished. Environment conservation is essential for any company that wants to stay competitive in today's economy where consumers are becoming increasingly aware of and concerned with environmental and ecological issues. Additionally, it is crucial in reducing the risk of regulatory and environmental liabilities.
