Zhaga certification

Standardise your lighting products such that they are interchangeable with those of other manufacturers and can therefore access a wider market.

What is Zhaga certification?

The Zhaga consortium is an international industry-wide consortium for the standardisation of LED lights. It contains specifications aimed at ensuring the interchangeability of LED light sources from different manufacturers. TÜV SÜD is a fully recognised and accredited Zhaga test centre with the complete range of tests necessary to get your lighting products certified according to the Zhaga standard.

Why Zhaga certification is important

At present, many lighting companies make their own mutually incompatible LED modules. This lack of interchangeability in light sources drives up R&D costs as light sources need to be upgraded and lighting parameters such as colour, temperature, light output and beam angle need to be constantly changed. Zhaga certification indicates that a lighting company’s products are standardised and follow Zhaga consortium recommendations.

Zhaga certification has numerous benefits such as:

  • Simplifying repairs, refurbishment and upgrades.
  • Future-proofing your business for large industrial customers and municipalities.
  • Boosting buyer trust and preference for your brand.
  • Avoiding over-production of lighting which soon becomes obsolete.
  • Increasing sales of standardised products.

What our Zhaga certification service includes

We conduct a comprehensive range of tests which help demonstrate that your product is certified according to the Zhaga standard:

  • Interchangeability – TÜV SÜD tests and certifies LED luminaires and LED light engines according to Zhaga specifications. These Zhaga specifications enable the interchangeability of LED light sources made by different manufacturers.
  • Photometric interface – We conduct photometric tests on parameters of the light-emitting surfaces: their dimensions, position and orientation, the LED light engine’s luminous output, luminous intensity distribution and luminance uniformity. Other important parameters tested are the beam angle and correlated colour temperature.
  • Mechanical interface – Mechanical interface testing checks the correct dimensions, positioning of contacts, coded keys and fixing methods of the light engine and holder.
  • Failure analysis – In addition to yielding comprehensive and in-depth analyses, our independent investigations can reveal the root causes of failures. These analyses lead to solution proposals for preventative measures to avoid product failures that might result in hefty disputes and compensations.
