What is amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI)?

The amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is an industry-driven movement that aims to monitor and assess workplace standards across the global supply chain. As a globally recognised leader for auditing safety and standards in manufacturing facilities worldwide, TÜV SÜD is qualified to guide you through compliance with this standard. This will help you ensure that not only does your own business treat all workers ethically and legally, but your suppliers also do so.

Why amfori BSCI monitoring is important

There are multiple benefits to conducting an amfori BSCI monitoring of your supply chain:

  • Ensuring that workers throughout your supply chain are being treated ethically and their rights are respected – including freedom of association, fair remuneration, health & safety and prohibition of child labour.
  • Avoiding negative press if the audit finds that your suppliers are treating workers poorly.
  • Enhancing your reputation among consumers as a reputable and ethical company and develop a competitive edge.
  • Improving your relationship with suppliers.

What our amfori BSCI monitoring services include

As a Monitoring Partner of amfori, TÜV SÜD conducts monitoring in accordance with amfori BSCI. We offer worldwide support with competent and fully accredited local auditors. We follow the process below as part of our amfori BSCI monitoring:

  1. Platform registration and Code of Conduct adoption – The amfori member invites the business partner (producers) to register on the amfori Sustainability Platform and adopts the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct across its supply chain.
  2. Create a company profile and complete site details – Once the business partner accepts an invitation to join members on the platform, they must create their company profile, create at least one site, and complete the details for each site.
  3. Initiation / RSP authorisation – The amfori BSCI member with RSP holder initiates the monitoring request via the amfori Sustainability Platform. Alternatively, eligible business partners may apply for monitoring directly on the platform without RSP authorisation.
  4. Monitoring application – Submit the necessary documentation to TÜV SÜD to obtain a customised quotation.
  5. Conduct onsite monitoring – The monitoring is conducted by qualified monitoring person as either semi-announced or fully unannounced, starting from the opening meeting and ending with a closing meeting.
  6. Monitoring report review – The designated technical reviewer evaluates the draft report once it is prepared by the lead monitoring person.
  7. Report submission – The lead monitoring person submits the final report through the amfori sustainability platform within ten business days after onsite monitoring is completed. Once the report is submitted, the monitoring rating (A, B, C, D, E) will be automatically calculated and displayed on the platform.
  8. Follow-up monitoring – If the monitoring rating is C, D or E, a follow-up monitoring must be conducted between 2-12 months of the last full monitoring to track progress on previously identified non-compliances.
