What does the standard ISO 14001 cover?
The ISO 14001 standard defines the requirements for a certifiable environmental management system (EMS) of an organisation. These requirements include, but are not limited to:
-
A management system which is suitable for continuously improving the organisation's environmental impacts, achieving compliance with legal and other environmental requirements and reaching its environmental objectives.
- The organisation has identified its significant environmental aspects and the associated environmental impacts. With effect from the ISO 14001:2015 edition, the standard also appropriately considers internal and external influencing factors (context of the organisation), identified risks and opportunities and the interests and expectations of interested parties in EMS requirements.
- The organisation has defined suitable criteria for the control of environmentally-relevant processes. The entire EMS is subject to an ongoing surveillance process. This applies in particular to compliance with environmental, legal and other requirements. The organisation monitors and evaluates achievement of environmental objectives and continuous improvement with the help of suitable performance indicators.
