What was the challenge?

Denmark’s first high-speed railway between Copenhagen (Vigerslev) and Ringsted stations through Køge will enable speeds of up to 250 km/h on parts of the line. The new line will also provide better rail connection and shorter travel times for commuters, linking Zealand and the rest of Denmark.

For the new high-speed line Copenhagen – Ringsted (NLCR), TÜV SÜD was assigned the safety assessment and EC-verification of all interfaces, with a special focus on the junctions between the high-speed and conventional rail. With thousands of commuters travelling on this line every day, railway inspection had to guarantee safety and reliability in every detail.

What was our solution?

The new line Copenhagen – Ringsted (NLCR) was built in sequences over several years and was divided into multiple contracts.

  • CSM-RA assessment:

This assessment included: Earth and construction works along the “S-bane” near Køge station; construction work on the bridge and track renewal package on Lille Syd, north of Køge station; a new power supply substation at Vigerslev station and its connection to NLCR; replacement of existing P80 switches at Køge station; implementation of the SR signal system based on a DSB 1982 line block with shaft counters as train detection.

  • CSM-RA assessment and EC-verification:

For the new Køge Nord station, the scope of work consisted in the “F-bane” and the “S-bane” platforms, the footbridge spanning the new high-speed “F-bane”, the motorway, and the “S-bane” line. It also included two constructions, earth work and bridges along the new line. The rebuilding of Ringsted station included interlocking to integrate it into NLCR, and the connection to the neighboring Ringsted – Femern line. Another task was the rebuilding of Vigerslev Station, including interlocking to integrate it into the NLCR.

What was the customer benefit?

TÜV SÜD railway inspection achieves a high level of safety and interoperability on the new railway line, especially on the junctions between the high-speed and conventional rail. The new line in full service will expand the railroad’s capacity and relieve the heavily trafficked line between Copenhagen and Roskilde.

This large project was built sequence wise over several years and contained a very high number of sub-projects, to which the project has obtained Approval for Placing Into Service (APIS). The TÜV SÜD team managed and arranged them with great dedication and skill, meeting all deadlines through the project.
