Romanias project company RoPower Nuclear has appointed TÜV SÜD as Owner´s Engineer for the Doicesti project. A Small Modular Reactor (SMR) is to be built there by the end of the decade on the site of a decommissioned coal-fired power plant.

RoPower Nuclear was founded in 2022 by Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica SA (SNN) and Nova Power & Gas SRL to promote the development and implementation of a first of a kind Small Modular Reactors (SMR) in Romania. The first project is based on a technology from an US reactor developer and will be built on the site of a decommissioned coal-fired power plant in Doicesti, 90 kilometers northwest of the Romanian capital Bucharest.

RoPower appointed TÜV SÜD as Owner´s Engineer for the Doicesti project, focusing on engineering support, design acceptance and compliance with national and international nuclear standards. The services include among others the verification of major equipment technical specifications, the implementation of ASME specifications and Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs, the supply chain oversight and assistance in fulfilling the requirements of Romanian regulations and authorities.

With over 60 years of nuclear expertise in Germany and internationally, TÜV SÜD has comprehensive nuclear knowledge and experience. The company will be working on the Doicesti project with RoPower, alongside their existing Romanian Owner's Engineer, CITON.
