21 May 2024
The safety of urban cable cars is at the focus of TÜV SÜD’s presence at Cable Car World, to be held in Essen, Germany, on 4 and 5 June 2024. The testing, inspection and certification (TIC) company supports manufacturers, operators and planners worldwide with an extensive service portfolio. (Hall 8, Stand C07)
TÜV SÜD’s services for cable car manufacturers, operators and planners cover certification of safety components and subsystems in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/424, initial acceptance of cable cars and drag lifts, and prescribed inspections by an authorised inspection agency as well as advisory services for operators and training offers for their employees. The expertise of the TÜV SÜD specialists is in high demand, not only in Europe’s Alpine regions, but also in conurbations and metropolitan areas worldwide.
“Urban cable cars are a reliable and environmentally friendly means of transport which requires relatively little investment”, says Dr Georg Schober, Department Head Transportation at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service in Munich. However, additional safety aspects must be taken into account when integrating cable cars into the urban environment. It is therefore an advantage that TÜV SÜD also has broad expertise in metro transportation systems.
“The knowledge and experience with urban ropeway systems are important criteria for contract award by leading manufacturers for international ropeway projects”, adds Peter Hofer, Head of the Cable Car Safety Centre at TÜV SÜD Austria in Wiesing. In recent years, TÜV SÜD's ropeway experts have been involved in the realization of major projects in over 20 countries – including Mexico, Colombia, Chile, China and India.
