In Europe, since July 2022, it has become mandatory to implement cybersecurity requirements (in accordance with UNECE R 155) for vehicle type approval. In addition, from July 2024, it will be mandatory for approved vehicle types to comply with the regulation. While safety standards, including the introduction of the regulation, are also being enforced in Japan, the international standard ISO/SAE 21434:2021 is attracting attention as a reference guideline for compliance with the regulation.

This standard is an international standard for cybersecurity in the automotive industry and provides guidelines from manufacturing to decommissioning to minimize the risk of cyberattacks. With this certification, DENSO is now able to prove that it has been objectively verified by a third party that their vehicle components and systems are delivered through a secure development process.

Dirk von Wahl, CEO North Asia at TÜV SÜD, said, „For companies, security measures are not only a technology challenge, but also a corporate governance issue. We are very pleased to have been able to issue ISO/SAE 21434 certification to DENSO, a leading mobility supplier, and to contribute to the automotive industry in Japan.“
