TÜV SÜD, a globally recognized testing, inspection and certification organization headquartered in Munich, Germany, has conducted a validation of Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.’s product carbon footprint (PCF) calculation tool, CFP-TOMO®, against the requirements of ISO 14067, ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and relevant industry guidelines. Following the successful assessment, TÜV SÜD issued a Validation Statement confirming the tool’s conformity with the applicable requirements.
In recent years, increasing attention has been given to Product Carbon Footprints, which quantify greenhouse gas emissions at the product level. Ensuring the credibility and reliability of such calculations has become a key challenge for organizations striving to enhance transparency across their value chains. International standards such as ISO 14067, ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 establish methodologies and requirements for carbon footprint calculations and life cycle assessments, supporting the generation and communication of transparent and reliable environmental data.
As part of the validation process, TÜV SÜD assessed CFP-TOMO® (Version 3.2), Sumitomo Chemical’s PCF calculation tool. The assessment confirmed that the methodology applied by the tool for calculating product carbon footprints conforms with the requirements of ISO 14067:2018, ISO 14040:2006, ISO 14044:2006, as well as the relevant guidelines established by the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) and Together for Sustainability (TfS). Based on this assessment, TÜV SÜD issued a Validation Statement confirming the tool’s conformity with these requirements.
The Validation Statement demonstrates that CFP-TOMO® enables the calculation and reporting of product carbon footprint data in accordance with the applicable standards and guidelines. By supporting the generation of consistent and transparent environmental information, the tool can facilitate information sharing among business partners and contribute to supply chain decarbonization efforts as well as enhanced environmental disclosure practices.
As the Japanese subsidiary of a global third-party certification organization, TÜV SÜD Japan remains committed to supporting companies in their decarbonization journey and enhancing the credibility of environmental information disclosure through independent assessment and assurance services.
