TÜV SÜD Japan announces that its affiliated company, TÜV SÜD Certification and Testing (China) Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shanghai, China), issued an ISO 14067:2018 carbon footprint verification statement on 15 December 2025 for selected electronic devices manufactured by Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Head office: Musashino City, Tokyo).
ISO 14067:2018 is an international standard that defines methods for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprint) across the entire product life cycle. In order to issue this verification statement, calculations were conducted in accordance with the standard, covering processes from raw material procurement to production at the factory (“cradle-to-gate”).
By obtaining a verification statement based on this standard, companies can present highly reliable data on the greenhouse gas emissions of their products and clearly demonstrate their commitment to a decarbonised society to stakeholders in Japan and overseas. Such verified product carbon footprint data will also become increasingly relevant in view of upcoming regulatory requirements, including the introduction of the digital product passport scheme starting in 2026.
Andrea Coscia, President and Representative Director of TÜV SÜD Japan, commented: “We are very pleased to issue a carbon footprint verification statement for complex electronic devices designed for industrial plant and equipment control in accordance with ISO 14067. We recognise that obtaining third-party verification for such complex electronic devices is a highly advanced initiative in the Japanese market. ISO 14067 verification enables companies to demonstrate the environmental impact of their products using a credible and quantitative method. It also highlights their contribution to a sustainable society.”
In addition to verifying individual products, TÜV SÜD Japan is also exploring the broader application of systematic approach validation services, which cover the calculation and reporting process for product carbon footprints. Building on its collaboration with Yokogawa Electric Corporation, TÜV SÜD Japan aims to support industry efforts towards decarbonisation in Japan even further.
TÜV SÜD Japan will continue to promote transparency in environmental information by providing third-party certification and verification services to a wide range of industries, therby contributing to the realisation of a sustainable society.
