EU: REACH – ECHA adds 3 substances to SVHC Candidate List
June 2025 - Electrical and electronics, hardlines, softlines, toys and children's products
On 25 June 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published the 33rd update of the REACH Candidate List1. Three (3) new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) were added. Now, the Candidate List includes 250 SVHCs2.
During March and April 2025, the ECHA launched a public consultation, and proposed three new substances to be identified as SVHC. Now all the proposed substances are identified as SVHCs and included in the REACH Candidate List.
According to a recent ECHA’s news3, they will organise an ad hoc SVHC consultation for 1,1'-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis[pentabromobenzene] (DBDPE) (EC 284-366-9, CAS 84852-53-9). The consultation is expected to launch on 27 June 2025, with a deadline of 11 August 2025. As a result, in addition to the two regular updates of the SVHC Candidate List, an extra ad hoc update will take place in 2025.
Table A gives the substance names, identification numbers (CAS and EC), the reason(s) for inclusion and their potential application(s).
