EU REACH: Candidate list includes 253 SVHCs now

Feb 2026 - Electrical & electronics, hardlines, softlines and toys and children’s products  

On 4 February 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published the 34th update of the REACH Candidate List1. With the addition of 2 new SVHCs, the total number of substances included in the included in the Candidate List2 now stands at 253.

During September and October 2025, ECHA launched a public consultation process, proposing three new substances for identification as SVHCs. Notably, 4,4'-methylenediphenol (BPF, Bisphenol F) was not included in this update, as its proposed identification was subsequently withdrawn. 

Furthermore, in November 2025, ECHA incorporated an additional substance into the Candidate List: 1,1'-(ethane-1,2-diyl) bis[pentabromobenzene] (DBDPE). This substance was initially proposed via an ad hoc public consultation conducted between July and August 2025. Collectively, these additions bring the total number of SVHCs on the Candidate List to 253.

Table A gives the substance names, identification numbers (CAS and EC), the reason(s) for inclusion and their potential application(s).
