China updates EMC emission requirements for household appliances and similar equipment

June 2026 - Electrical & Electronics

In Force Since 1 June 2026

On 28 May 2024, the Chinese Standardization Administration (SAC) and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued mandatory standard GB 4343.1-2024, which specifies electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) emission requirements for household appliances, electric tools, and similar apparatus.

The standard establishes limits and measurement methods for radio-frequency disturbance emissions within the frequency range of 9 kHz to 400 GHz.

GB 4343.1-2024 applies to equipment powered by AC or DC sources, including battery-operated products, that are intended for use in the following environments:

  • Household and domestic settings, including homes and gardens;
  • Agricultural and farm environments;
  • Residential and commercial premises; and
  • Shops, offices, and other similar workplace environments.

The standard also covers the following categories of equipment:

  • Hand-held tools powered by electric motors or electromagnetic drives;
  • Portable electric tools;
  • Lawn and garden machinery;
  • External power controllers utilizing semiconductor devices;
  • Electrical medical equipment;
  • Electric toys;
  • Personal care and beauty appliances;
  • Vending machines;
  • Arcade machines;
  • Projectors;
  • Battery chargers and external power supplies used in conjunction with covered products; and
  • Electric fence energizers.

In addition to complete products, the standard applies to individual components within the covered equipment, including motors and switching devices. It also covers equipment incorporating radio transmission and/or reception functions.

GB 4343.1-2024 entered into force on 1 June 2026 and simultaneously replaced GB 4343.1-2018 in its entirety. The standard is technically aligned with CISPR 14-1:2020.

Due to copyright restrictions, the full text of the standard is not available for public preview. Interested parties must purchase the standard directly from the official platform.
