APRIL 2023 - TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
On 5 April 20231, the European Commission published the latest list of harmonised standards which gives a presumption of conformity with Toy Directive 2009/48/EC. The previous harmonised standard EN 71-13:2021 on olfactory board games, cosmetic kits, and gustative games has been replaced by EN 71-13:2021+A1:20222.
The requirements of Toy Directive 2009/48/EC are more directly related to the specifications of harmonised standard EN 71-13:2021+A1:2022. The most recent amendment guidelines3 on allergenic fragrances are in line with this revised version of the standard.
EN 71-13 is a European safety standard for toys that involves olfactory board games, cosmetic kits, and gustative games. It is a part of the EN 71 series of standards for toys sold in the EU and specifies requirements for substances and mixtures used in these types of toys. The latest version, EN 71-13:2021+A1:2022, was published on 4 May 2022 by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and implements Directives (EU) 2020/2088 and 2020/2089 on fragrances in toys. It replaces the previous version, EN 71-13:2021.
