Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Testing and Certification

Ensure safety and compliance for your vehicles

ABOUT COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG) VEHICLES

According to the Natural Gas Vehicles for America, nearly 200,000 vehicles in the United States, and 23 million vehicles worldwide are powered by natural gas. Compressed natural gas (CNG) is a fuel that can be used in the place of gasoline or diesel fuel and is considered an alternative fuel under the Energy Policy Act of 1992.

CNG vehicles store their fuel in the gas tank, where it is kept in its gaseous form. Benefits of a CNG vehicle include:

  • Better air quality and lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • Widespread domestic availability
  • Lower cost than gasoline and diesel fuels

COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS COMPLIANCE

In order to manufacture and sell CNG vehicles overseas, manufacturers must comply with a variety of regulations related to alternative fuels. TÜV SÜD America can assist in testing and certification for these regulations, including:

  • UN/ECE-R110 regulation for specific components of motor vehicles using compressed natural gas (CNG) and/or liquified natural gas (LNG) in their propulsion system.
  • ECE Regulation 110 for CNG Vehicles
  • ISO 14469 for Road Vehicles- Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Refueling Connector
  • ISO 15500 for Road Vehicles- Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel System Components
  • ANSI PRD1, Pressure Relief Devices for Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Fuel Containers
  • NGV 1 for Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Fueling Connection Devices
  • ANSI NGV 2 for Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle Fuel Containers
  • NGV3.1 for Fuel System Components for Compressed Natural Gas-Powered Vehicles
  • NGV 4.2 Hoses for Natural Gas Dispensing Systems
  • NGV 4.4 Breakaway Devices for Natural Gas Dispensing Hoses and Systems
