The SS 590:2013 is a HACCP based locally recognised Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in Singapore. It was published to replace and upgrade the previous Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) HACCP Document No. 2 – Management of Food Safety based on HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) – Requirements for a HACCP-based Food Management System. All existing certified organisations required to review and upgrade existing management system under SAC HACCP Document No. 2 to SS 590 by 10 January 2016.
The scope covers any food organisations in the food chain which includes, but is not limited to, the following activities: sourcing, preparation, processing, manufacturing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution, handling or offering for sale or supply in any sector of the food chain. It covers food manufacturers, hotels’ kitchen, restaurants, caterers, food distribution companies, food retails, etc.
SS 590 has been drafted as a modified adoption of the FSMS standard ISO 22000:2005. Hence, implementing SS 590 will lay the foundation for the future implementation of the ISO 22000 standard.
