Ensure Compliance & Safety
PSSR stands for Pressure Systems Safety Regulations which relate to pressure systems for use at work and the risk to health and safety. PSSR applies to owners and operators of pressure systems which contain relevant fluids such as steam at any pressure; compressed or liquefied gas, including air, at a pressure greater than 0.5 bar above atmospheric pressure; pressurised hot water above 110 °C; and a gas dissolved under pressure in a solvent (acetylene).
Regular PSSR inspections / examinations by a competent person are crucial to ensure pressure systems are compliant with PSSR and safe for use to avoid serious injuries. The simplest solution is to partner with an independent third-party inspection service provider like TÜV SÜD who will provide your peace of mind that your workplace is safe.
Before using any qualifying pressure equipment, PSSR regulation 8 states that a written scheme for the periodic examination (WSE) must be in place, and regulation 9 requires that an independent examination of the pressure system must be conducted by a competent person in accordance with the WSE. The WSE should be drawn up by a competent person, be specific to the type of pressure system being inspected, and identify the frequency and scope of the inspections
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), a pressure system is:
According to the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), all pressure systems must undergo regular inspections by a qualified and impartial competent person, such as a TÜV SÜD Engineering Surveyor. Most pressure systems normally require both 'out of service' and 'in service' examinations. Our competent and qualified engineer surveyors have the skills and experience to help you stay safe and compliant with PSSR. We will conduct comprehensive tests and inspections of pressure system inspections and testing, assessing the integrity, performance, and safety of pressure vessels, air compressors, and related equipment.
Following our thorough inspection, we’ll provide you with a detailed report of the condition of your pressure system including any potential hazards, plus recommendations for repairs and modifications so you can take any necessary corrective actions.
The inspection frequency varies based on several factors, such as the type of pressure system, its associated risks, location, usage, and other considerations. Systems with higher risks require more frequent inspections. Most pressure systems should be inspected at least once every 12 months. Pressure system inspection frequencies are determined by the WSE.
