Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has published a proposal that would establish maximum residue limits (MRLs) for iprodione.
Iprodione is a fungicide used on fruit and vegetable crops, and also as a chemical treatment for plant seeds. However, research has found that exposure to iprodione, even at low levels, can contribute to adverse health effects, such as allergies and endocrine disruption, and even cancer. Other countries and jurisdictions, including the European Union, China, Japan and Australia, have already implemented MRLs for iprodione.
Published on June 21st, the PMRA proposal for iprodione would establish an MRL of 10 parts per million (PPM) for grapes, and 0.07 PPM for all other foods.
The complete text of Health Canada’s PMRA proposal regarding iprodione is available here. The PMRA is accepting comments on the proposed MRLs for iprodione for 75 days from the date the proposal was originally published. Contact information for submitting comments is provided on the front page of the PMRA’s proposal.
