Structural dynamics test technician at TÜV SÜD Canada - Ottawa (Kanata) Lab

Can you describe your role at TÜV SÜD?
I am the Mechanical Specialist operating the Structural Dynamics Lab here Ottawa. 

Since 2010 this role has kept me busy finding ways to mount customer products to the different test apparatuses. 

What is your favorite thing about working at TÜV SÜD?
Every test setup is different with each having their own characteristics and mounting requirements.      

What are you most excited about for the future of TÜV SÜD?
With new investments into the Ottawa lab one of which is a new 16,000 lbf (3-inch stroke) shaker table will bring different opportunities and new challenges.

What are 3 words that you’d use to describe TÜV SÜD?
Quality, Customer Focus, Technical Competence

Tell us about a project that you’ve worked on that you’re proud of.
All of them, when a customer after testing responds with kind words and future Collaboration.

Describe your relationship with customers.
I interface with my customer on a daily basis. There is always a feeling of collaboration as I work with the customer to meet their testing needs and schedules.

What is your history/industry experience?

• 1987-1996, Schooled and worked as an Aircraft Avionics Tech (Mechanical and Electronics)
• 1997-2009, Hardware Design and Sustaining, Nortel Networks. (mostly Electronics)
• 2010-Now, Structural Dynamics Lab operator, Flextronics & TUV SUD (mostly Mechanical)
• 1990-Now, Owned, repaired, modified the many family antique cars, Hot Rods, & boats.

  My brain is not organized like it is at work, have you seen my garage (Ask Wife)!

  Alexander Graham Bell, like me, had so many interests across many fields. Might be fun to sit and chat.
