Head of Software and Digital

I’ve got quite a diverse background. I started with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in thermodynamics, and then dove into the industry. My career has taken me through roles in software development, mechanical engineering, and even some deep dives into fluid flow and metering. Along the way, I’ve filed five patents (yes, I geek out on innovation!) and managed some cool projects like creating software products with machine learning capabilities.
Right now, I’m Head of Software and Digital at TÜV SÜD, where I lead everything from external client software-related projects to automating finance processes internally. It’s a bit of everything, but that’s what keeps it exciting!
Honestly, it was the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that tackle real-world industry challenges. TÜV SÜD’s focus on innovation, quality, and safety just aligned perfectly with my skills and ambitions. Plus, the chance to work with some truly brilliant people didn’t hurt either!
I’m based at TÜV SÜD in East Kilbride, Scotland, but I mostly work from home. Flexibility like this is a huge perk. It lets me stay focused while still collaborating with the team.
I’d say I specialise in software development, machine learning integration, fluid flow and metering, and project management. I’ve got a knack for blending technical know-how with business strategy, which has been a game-changer in my roles.
It’s a bit of a juggling act, honestly! I lead software development, manage cross-disciplinary teams, and drive innovation in digital solutions. My main responsibilities include designing architectures, coordinating between teams, and solving our clients’ needs while staying ahead of tech trends.
I love solving problems—especially the ones that seem impossible at first. It’s incredibly satisfying to take an idea, turn it into a solution, and see the impact it has on clients. A highlight has been delivering machine-learning-driven tools for important customers.
The projects coming up? Well, let’s just say they involve some groundbreaking cloud technologies that I’m itching to get started on!
The growth in digital transformation here has been phenomenal. From automating processes to incorporating advanced analytics and machine learning, TÜV SÜD has really embraced innovation. It’s inspiring to see how quickly we adapt to industry needs.
Digital transformation isn’t slowing down. I think we’ll see even more integration of AI and machine learning into industrial processes. Also, cloud computing and edge technologies are evolving rapidly, and they’re going to reshape how we handle data and software solutions.
Keeping up with the pace of technology. The IT world moves fast, and staying ahead requires constant learning. But hey, that’s part of the fun!
For me, it’s the people. I work with some of the smartest, most driven individuals who genuinely care about making a difference. Add to that the chance to solve real industry challenges and the excellent training opportunities - it’s a winning combo.
They’ve given me the freedom to innovate and the resources to succeed. Whether it’s training, tools, or simply trusting me to lead ambitious projects, TÜV SÜD has been incredibly supportive.
Brilliant, collaborative, innovative, supportive, fun.
Be ready to tackle challenges head-on. The work is dynamic and sometimes demanding, but if you’re curious, adaptable, and love problem-solving, you’ll thrive here.
I’ve been fortunate to contribute to some exciting advancements in my field. My published papers include topics like dynamic modelling of oxyfuel power plants and geothermal heating systems, which you can find in respected industry publications.
In terms of patents, I hold five in areas like process automation, efficiency improvement in power plant processes, and carbon capture technologies. These innovations have played a role in addressing real-world challenges and driving industry progress.
1 Patent Application WO2012/056245, Control System and Method for Power Plant
2 Patent Application WO201207690, Oxy-Fuel Plant with Flue Gas Compression And Method
3 Patent Application WO2012080748, Combustion Furnace and Method Of Operation
4, 5 Two patent applications in the Power industry field, waiting to be published
Testing Oil Filtration Product Adaptions with CFD Modelling
