Understanding and Using Combustible Dust Safety Parameters for Safe Unit Operations
This course provides a practical and application-oriented introduction to the determination, interpretation, and use of safety data for combustible dusts in the design and operation of safe industrial unit operations.
Through real-world industrial case studies and extensive experience-based insights, participants will learn how safe operating conditions can be established based on experimentally determined data and which methods are available for generating reliable safety parameters. The course also addresses common pitfalls in data generation and interpretation, the specific challenges associated with hybrid mixtures, and the application of safety data to equipment such as filters, silos, dryers, and conveying systems.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to assess under which conditions operations such as drying, milling, mixing, and handling combustible powders can lead to fires, explosions, or thermal decomposition. They will understand how such hazards can be prevented and which safety-related data are required for the design and operation of safe processes.
Participants will therefore be able to correctly interpret safety data and translate them into robust process safety and explosion protection concepts.
