The seminar “Artificial Intelligence in Medical Technology” deals with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for medical devices. AI is considered a transformative technology that offers undeniable added value for medical devices of various categories. In this seminar, you will learn how artificial intelligence is used in medical and pharmaceutical technology and what developments can be expected in the future. The seminar is divided into four parts:

The first part explains how ML systems work and how they are classified. Participants will learn which ML-supported products are already being used successfully in medical and pharmaceutical technology and what advantages they have.

The second part deals with the current regulatory requirements for ML-supported products and future developments. Participants will learn which regulatory approaches currently exist, what opportunities and risks the use of AI entails and how these relate to the existing rules. In particular, it will be discussed that regulatory provisions such as the EU regulations for medical devices (MDR) or in vitro diagnostics (IVDR) and the regulations of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also affect AI-based medical devices.

In the third part of the seminar, special attention will be paid to the safety of AI-based medical devices. For AI-based medical devices, it must be objectively proven that they deliver reproducible and reliable results. While standards and guidelines for the regulation of AI are still under development, medical device manufacturers must nevertheless consider the performance of AI methods - including verification data, algorithm development and risk management. Find out what regulatory approaches currently exist and how they relate to each other. You will learn which measures you can integrate into your own processes in order to develop ML products safely and be better prepared for upcoming regulations.

The fourth and final part of the seminar deals with good machine learning practice in the product life cycle and QMS - in other words, how ML-supported products can be optimally developed as part of quality management and the product life cycle. The documentation required and the responsibilities within the company will be discussed. Special features of artificial intelligence in medical technology will also be highlighted.
