EV Charging Infrastructure Testing and Certification in Singapore

EV Charger Certification and Testing for Reliable Charging Stations

TR 25:2016 and TR 25:2022 - Lab accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council

TR 25:2016 and TR 25:2022 - Lab accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC)

Widespread adoption of electric vehicles can only be achieved when there is safe, reliable and convenient charging infrastructure in place. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure and connectors are developed based on new technologies that require extensive testing and certification to relevant standards by an independent party. Beyond determining safety and quality, testing helps manufacturers improve on existing designs.

What is Electric vehicle charging infrastructure testing and certification?

TÜV SÜD test for electrical, environmental (including EMC) and functional safety, providing the results of each test so that any issues can be addressed efficiently. Upon completion of all tests, you will receive a comprehensive technical report and, if all test criteria are met, we award certification to the product.

TR25:2016 and TR25:2022 – the national electric vehicle (EV) charging standard guides the safety requirements of EV charging systems and infrastructure across Singapore. The EV charging infrastructure in Singapore includes the Type 2 AC and Combo-2 DC charging systems under the National Public Charging Standards (NPCS). The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Economic Development Board (EDB) – the co-chairs of the Electro-mobility Singapore (EMS) taskforce – are the governing authorities for these standards.

As a vital component of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the Government is dedicated to establishing a sustainable transportation system. In line with this commitment and the comprehensive EV Roadmap, LTA and EMA introduced CHAdeMO – a fast charging method for EV batteries – as Optional Public Charging Standards (OPCS) in March 2020. This inclusion enhances the development of electric vehicle charging stations, providing a broader spectrum of public EV charging options. The goal is to encourage widespread adoption of electric vehicles across Singapore, reinforcing the nation's commitment to eco-friendly transportation and innovation in electric vehicle charging station testing.

These standards – the TR25:2016, TR25:2022, the NPCS, and the OPCS – are in place to promote EV adoption in Singapore and ensure the safety, reliability, and convenience of EV charging infrastructure in Singapore.

TÜV SÜD provides testing and certification of charging infrastructure, including charging stations, connectors and electrical components for:

  • AC charging poles and wall boxes
  • DC charging stations (CHAdeMO and CCS)
  • Inductive charging systems
