The International Alliance for Mobility Testing & Standardization (IAMTS) has grown rapidly since chartering last year. IAMTS is a global, membership-based alliance of stakeholders in the testing, standardization and certification of advanced mobility systems and services. The new members are Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts and Promotion Institute (KIAPI), Beijing Saimo Technology Co., Ltd., GreenTEC Campus, and Invest Ottawa.
“We are happy to welcome our new partners which will extend our network and global expertise and support us in following our vision in developing a commonly accepted framework of specifications, test scenarios, validation and certification methods, and terminology” says Alexander Kraus, Senior Vice President Industry Mobility at TÜV SÜD and first chairman of the new International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS).
And John Tintinalli, IAMTS Secretariat says: “At the core of IAMTS is its body of CAV testing simulation providers, labs and facilities. We are pleased to welcome our new members into IAMTS who will contribute their expertise to our active working groups. Keeping our global scope, these entities represent geographies of Germany, USA, China, and Canada.”
Located in Daegu, South Korea, KIAPI is a vehicle testing institute, which supports parts distributors, vehicle manufacturers and research institutes for development of next-generation automotive technologies. KIAPI brings the Daegu Proving Ground into the Alliance and provides connection to the Korean automotive industry.
“We are striving to help develop safer vehicles and parts using our own proving ground, CAV – Connected and Autonomous Vehicle – evaluation environment of real world driving, and test equipment to verify performance to support safe vehicle developments” said Bong-Seob Kim, Senior Research Engineer and Team Leader at KIAPI. “We are happy to be a member of IAMTS, and we hope that the direction and network that IAMTS pursues will be a great help in our role in supporting the company.”
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity and brings over 130 years of experience. Through its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities, IEEE is the trusted voice in a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers, and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power, and consumer electronics.
“Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has become increasingly relevant for the automotive industry, where a framework for testing and measurement is also needed to provide the currently missing facts and evidence to justify trust in autonomous systems,” said Dr. Konstantinos Karachalios, Managing Director of IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA). “Standards and widely accepted engineering practices play a fundamental role in the human-centric, digital transformation of transportation and IEEE supports IAMTS in establishing a globally-aligned ecosystem for the certification and type approval of future fully automated vehicles and mobility solutions.”
Beijing Saimo Technology Co., Ltd. is a company focused on testing, evaluation and validation of autonomous vehicles with simulation methods. The company has already developed toolchains for data collecting in real world, data processing and transferring, and scenario generation for simulation platforms. The company has developed simulation platform and applied in practice.
"It's a pleasure and honor to join the IAMTS," said Dr.Xue Xiaoqing, Program Director, Saimo, "We have already used the simulation as the main measuring method for autonomous vehicles in Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Beijing and Changsha. We also completed the group standard Technical requirement for automatic driving vehicle simulation test platform. We hope to work with IAMTS members to promote technology development, standard setting and practices for AV testing.”
GreenTEC Campus, located Enge-Sande in the north of Germany, provides ideal rural test conditions for the mobility of the future. Today they are testing LiDAR sensors including the effects of the salty ambient air. GreenTEC Campus “will contribute to the IAMTS alliance to make future mobility safer and to offer companies the opportunity to fall back on a wide portfolio of test options in order to advance the development of systems faster,” said Marco Kalkhorst, Project Manager. “The news of the admission to the Alliance for Mobility Testing & Standardization was received with great pleasure and as the first North German test site of the IAMTS we look forward to a successful cooperation and the tasks that lie ahead!”
IAMTS, a program of SAE Industry Technologies Consortia (SAE ITC®), is a global, membership-based alliance of organizations involved in the testing, standardization and certification of advanced mobility systems and services. The alliance works to develop and grow an international portfolio of smart mobility testbeds that meet the highest quality implementation and operational standards.
