Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to work as an Auditor/Lead Auditor for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas (GHG) declarations for both organisations (ISO 14064-1) and products (ISO 14067), in accordance with international standards and the requirements of verification and validation bodies (ISO/IEC 17029, ISO 14065 and ISO 14064-3)

Target Audience

The course is aimed at technicians and inspectors as part of their qualification path as a third-party Auditor/Lead Auditor for the verification and validation of the carbon footprint of products and services and GHG (Greenhouse Gas) inventories.

Course Agenda

Module 1: ISO 14064-1 (Organizational Carbon Footprint)

  • ISO 14064-1: principles, requirements and structur
  • Organisational and operational boundarie
  • Identification of emission source
  • Greenhouse gas quantification, monitoring and reporting criteria
  • Practical exercises and case studies
  • Final examination

Module 2: ISO 14067 (Product Carbon Footprint)

  • Introduction to LCA and life cycle thinking
  • ISO 14067: Requirements for product carbon footprint quantification (CFP)
  • Allocation rules, use of primary and secondary data
  • Communication and environmental statements
  • Case studies and sector exercises
  • Final examination

Module 3-4: Verification and Validation (ISO 14064-3 and ISO 14065)

  • Verification and validation processes according to ISO 14064-3
  • Competence, independence and impartiality of auditors
  • Verification planning, sampling techniques and collection of evidence
  • Requirements for verification bodies (ISO 14065, ISO/IEC 17029)
  • Final evaluation

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of LCA methodology and/or GHG accounting

Course Materials

  • Handout, containing the slides projected during the course, in case of online courses it will be provided in electronic format;
  • Notebook for didactic use (where applicable), containing a copy of the standards necessary for the training course, to be returned at the end of the course. In order to respect copyright, all the standards of online courses can be provided for consultation only through access to a dedicated portal. Learning Assessments

  • Certificate of competence, in case of successful completion of final exam
  • Certificate of attendance, in case of non successful completion of final exam or no exam.
