As a result, it supports the development of compliant, dependable, and safe machinery.
The TÜV SÜD Functional Safety Machinery Engineer Certification validates advanced knowledge and practical competence in the application of ISO 13849, ISO 12100, IEC 62061, and IEC 61508 within machinery safety projects. Certified professionals are equipped to define machine limits, identify hazards, determine safety requirements, select appropriate safety architectures, and verify safety functions using recognized methods and tools.
Earning this certification demonstrates expertise in functional safety engineering, enhances professional credibility, and supports organizations in meeting regulatory requirements while driving safe and innovative machine design.
This examination is intended for engineers, testers, developers, project managers, and quality professionals involved in the design, development, production, validation, and implementation of machinery safety systems. It is particularly relevant for professionals working with programmable electronic safety systems and safety-related control systems who apply ISO 13849 and related functional safety standards throughout the machinery lifecycle.
The examination covers the following standards:
ISO 12100: Risk assessment according to international standard 12100
ISO 13849-1: Safety of machinery — Safety-related parts of control systems
IEC 62061: Safety of machinery: Functional safety of electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems
Successful completion of the exam is required as part of the Functional Safety Certification Program in order to be qualified as Functional Safety Engineer and earn a TÜV SÜD Academy certificate.
