WHAT IS CLEAN AIR DELIVERY RATE (CADR) TESTING?

Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) Testing is to measure the efficiency of a device (air purifier) to produce clean air for a room. CADR will measure the cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air that has had all the particles of a given size distribution removed. A higher CADR a device possesses indicate its greater ability to return clean air to the room. CADR value of a device will assist consumer on making decision during purchase of the device.

As contaminants can be generated by people, processes, raw materials, facilities and equipment, it is important to continually review the level of contamination and prevent contaminants from entering the cleanroom environment.

TÜV SÜD PSB is able to help air purifier manufacturer to determine the CADR of their product, which assist manufacturer to get their product access to market, and continuous in product improvement.

TÜV SÜD PSB utilises internationally recognized ISO 14644 standard for cleanroom testing. The standard describes the methodology for a system to assess and control biocontamination in cleanrooms and associated controlled environments with various risk management and control.

WHY IS CLEAN AIR DELIVERY RATE (CADR) TESTING IMPORTANT?

The CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) air purifier testing is one of the most essential benchmarks to consider when evaluating an air purifier. It is one of the most effective ways to know whether the air purifier fits its job. The CADR rating system allows consumers to compare air purifiers considering both filter efficiency and airflow. It measures the speed at which the purifier removes contamination.

This testing method is valuable to avoid misleading marketing messages. When choosing an air purifier, customers go for the one with a higher CADR rating as it can clean the air faster.

TESTING STANDARDS TO MEASURE CADR

When testing air purifying products using a CADR test, your device's performance is measured using TÜV SÜD’s In-House Method, with reference to air purifier testing standards. The particle counter test is performed in a chamber with volume around 30 m3. This test measures an air purifier's filtration for smoke and the diameters of these particles measure 2.5 microns.

CADR is a way to measure the particle-removal performance of air purifiers accurately. It determines how effectively an air purifier removes particles from the air compared to how fast they would settle on a surface.

HOW CAN TÜV SÜD'S CLEAN AIR DELIVERY RATE (CADR) TESTING HELP?

Air cleaners and air purifiers must be tested by an independent lab and verified before entering the market. TÜV SÜD is a leading global certification company and has set the benchmark for quality, safety, and sustainability by utilising the internationally recognized ISO 14644 standard for cleanroom testing. The standard describes the methodology for a system to assess and control biocontamination in cleanrooms and associated controlled environments with various risk management and control.

We provide the world's top laboratories with innovative solutions to determine air quality and air purification effectiveness. We help you certify your commercial air purifier system.
