Ensure sustainable practices and business resilience

When a company integrates environmental sustainability considerations into its overall business strategy, the benefits are significant. Green business operating models have positive effects on the planet, the global economy and wider society. TÜV SÜD conducts assessments for social and environmental sustainability performance of companies to:

  • Reduce complexity and increase transparency – International management system standards around environmental sustainability provide a common language and internationally agreed specifications that make your sustainability efforts easy to benchmark.
  • Foster sustainable development – Management systems and individual specifications can be applied to enhance, track and document the progress of your sustainability strategy and operations.
  • Strengthen customer trust and gain a competitive edge – A third-party certification can demonstrate commitment to green business practices, long-term accountability and a proactive approach to risk management.

What are the UN Sustainable development goals?

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are 17 global targets designed to protect the planet, end poverty and ensure a more sustainable future for all by 2030. The SDGs were agreed by all United Nations member states in 2015. Businesses can play a key role in meeting the SDGs by improving sustainability practices in three areas: economic, social and environmental sustainability.

Economic sustainability helps companies to define their business practices to achieve long-term growth without compromising on social, environmental and cultural aspects of the community.

Social sustainability focuses on the health and wellbeing of the world’s population. The implementation of international standards ensures business transparency, ethical practices and fair treatment of workers throughout the supply chain, thus contributing to these goals.

Environmental sustainability involves reducing the environmental impact of a business’s activity. Environmental management and energy management are prominent examples of system standards that are widely implemented to support sustainable operations.

To get started with meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, organizations can undergo a sustainability assessment based on established standards. It may also be appropriate to undertake customized assessments* based on criteria set by a third-party or the business itself. Read more about the UN SDGs and the related TÜV SÜD sustainability portfolio here.

*Please note that we cannot provide 2nd party audits and customized assessments to companies that hold a valid accredited management system certification under TÜV SÜD. However, we will be happy to work with you to identify opportunities for collaboration.
