TÜV SÜD is acquiring the testing division of Switzerland-based PROSE Group, thereby expanding its competence in the testing of rolling stock and their components. The acquisition strengthens TÜV SÜD’s position as one of the leading providers of testing, inspection and certification (TIC) services in the rail industry.
TÜV SÜD's Rail Services business unit offers one-stop solutions for rail systems throughout the world. Where rolling stock and their components are concerned, the experts assist manufacturers from the drawing board to the market. Their testing portfolio spans stationary tests and track tests, addressing fields such as running dynamics, brake systems, fatigue resistance, pantographs and traction and buffer equipment as well as crash tests. “Our acquisition of the testing division of PROSE and its highly qualified employees has allowed us to complement our areas of competence in a targeted manner”, says Stefan Bauer, CEO TÜV SÜD Schweiz AG. This applies specifically to areas such as aerodynamics, machine dynamics, electrical systems and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as well as vehicle acoustics. “The expansion will enable us to efficiently handle even very large volume contracts as a general contractor and one-stop shop, which makes our customers the main beneficiaries of this expansion”, says Uwe Rönsch, Head of Rolling Stock Test Centre at TÜV SÜD Rail GmbH. Half of the new employees will be located in Switzerland, while the other half will reinforce the rail team of TÜV SÜD in Germany.
The acquisition also underlines TÜV SÜD’s position as one of the leading providers of testing, inspection and certification services to the rail industry – from conventional rail systems to high-speed trains and metro and urban rail systems. Over 450 experts from the Rail Services business unit support manufacturers, operators and authorities worldwide throughout all stages of a project and all phases of a product’s life cycle. To do so, TÜV SÜD maintains not only its own test facility for rail applications and proprietary testing tools, but also holds all necessary international accreditations and approvals as testing and calibration body and as notified body (NoBo), designated body (DeBo) and third-party assessment body (AsBo).
