Delivering real business benefits across key segments
ISO 19443 is a nuclear-specific quality management standard designed to improve safety and quality throughout the nuclear supply chain.
The ISO 19443 builds upon the ISO 9001 to create enhanced principles specific to the nuclear energy sector, merging safety best practice with requirements that are unique to the field in order to obtain optimum nuclear safety. Where the ISO 9001 focuses on the requirements of a quality management system (QMS), the ISO 19443 has built upon these requirements with a specific focus on nuclear safety. These are laid out with a view to be implemented throughout entire nuclear quality management systems, meaning organizations within the nuclear supply chain that produce equipment and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS). For example, for EPCs and manufacturers.
Nuclear safety is of highest importance and therefore a sound safety culture needs to be in place throughout the whole nuclear supply chain. The ISO 19443 provides clear requirements for quality management systems in relation to those in the nuclear industry who provide nuclear equipment, systems and services to operators in order to not only meet the customer’s needs but enhance customer satisfaction through effective application of the system. This includes how to implement risk-based thinking, improvements to be made and conformity assurance.
As developments in nuclear processes progress, so too will the standard that accompanies these developments. While the ISO 19443 is not yet a legal requirement for nuclear suppliers, the accelerations in these advancements mean that possession will likely become mandatory. Securing ownership of ISO 19443 therefore future proofs your offering, while allowing your company to showcase the quality and reliability of your processes as well as your forward-thinking preparation, leadership and strategic planning.
TÜV SÜD is one of the first companies worldwide that has been accredited as a certification body for ISO 19443 by the French Accreditation Body, COFRAC (Comité français d'accréditation). Our nuclear training and workshops follow a core structure that focus on the practical applications of the theory and regulations behind nuclear processes.
Prior to commencement of the training, we assess the level required for your organization to then build upon our core structure. This provides a tailormade training package that’s optimized for your team. Once completed, you receive a certificate of participation.
Our nuclear safety training team is made up of experts that have first-hand experience in nuclear processes and how they can be applied best to your specific nuclear offering. By using real-world examples within our training, your organization can apply what they’ve learnt to their working life, giving them an indelibly useful experience.
The training can take place in your preferred location; we offer site visits throughout Europe or office-based training.
Adapting to the needs of your company we can either do the Pre-audit / Gap Analysis of your management system or the Certification Audit according to the ISO 19443.
Pre-audit / Gap Analysis
During a pre-audit/gap analysis TÜV SÜD will perform a pre-assessment audit of your quality management system to check if it is meeting the requirements specified for your project.
Certification Audit
The certification of quality management systems covers the specific requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2015 by organisations in the supply chain of the nuclear energy sector supplying products and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS).
A successful management system is one that is being improved on a continual basis. Both your management system and certificate have to be maintained.
Therefore, certification consists of two stages: The initial certification, and maintenance of the certificate thereafter.
Certification follows a seven-step process:
The ISO 19443 standard on quality management systems can be used independently or in an integrated way to any other management system, saving you time and costly double certification.
This process not only ensures that your company is compliant with the latest legal requirements – both local and international – but to also ensure that your organization is continuously working to the safety standards of ISO 19443. In doing so, a strong safety culture and mindset is established amongst your workforce: to continuously strive for improvement within each area of the process.
The 2-day nuclear training course gives an overview of the general idea and concept of the ISO 19443. The program focuses on crucial requirement areas and demonstrates in a practical application how these additional requirements can be integrated into your existing management system.
