Future in Your Hands
Future in Your Hands
At TÜV SÜD Manufacturing and Consumer Products, we are often the last port of call before components of products or machines find their way into standard production processes and everyday items reach regular people. If you join us in this field of expertise, testing and auditing industrial and consumer goods, making sure they are of the highest quality and safe for the end user, will be your responsibility.
Our product specialists tirelessly test and certify products of all kinds – toys, sports equipment, audio, visual and IT equipment, household appliances, cosmetics, etc. – for their safety and suitability so that consumers can reach for the shelves with confidence and trust. TÜV SÜD is also a fully-accredited provider of food quality and safety testing, including drinking water and environmental analytics and toxicology. We cover the entire supply chain, inspecting the production facilities, transport and logistics of food in accordance with various legal standards and regulations.
Depending on the role, a fitting background would be, for example, a degree in engineering with experience in food technology, chemistry or nutritional science. If that sounds like you, we would like to hear from you!

At the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic increased the global demand for face masks. We knew consumers would be expecting these products to slow the spread of the virus, so they needed to fulfil the technical requirements as per international standards such as ASTM 2100 and EN 14683.
Some of our Singaporean colleagues at TÜV SÜD PSB Pte Ltd, Chemical Centre, gathered the technical experts of our microbiology laboratory, industrial chemical laboratory, elemental laboratory and physical laboratory to develop face mask testing capabilities.
After just approximately two and a half months, we had a lab fully equipped to test medical face masks as per international standards – with the necessary instruments and our own, customised testing apparatus and accessories.
We assisted manufacturers, distributors and purchasers in verifying the performance of face masks, increasing confidence in the product’s functionality. Over 400 types of masks were tested by us in 2020 for local and global supply.

The testing of sport equipment such as bicycles, e-scooters and roller skates belongs to the standard repertoire of our experienced PS Hardline team in Shanghai. While these devices are very popular – especially amongst children – the product quality between brands varies considerably. If respective safety requirements aren’t met, the usage of these products can be a source of severe injuries. Recognizing our company’s longstanding expertise in this field, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee asked TÜV SÜD to launch a comprehensive comparative test that informs parents about the characteristics to be considered, specifically when purchasing kids’ roller skates.
Using mystery shopping, our experts purchased samples and assessed them according to all relevant regulations. After analysing and comparing the results, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee made an official announcement, reassuring consumers as to which brands were safest for their children. Due to the informative and customer-centric approach of the test, the results received widespread attention from consumers and were finally broadcasted on a national level by China’s state TV channel, CCTV.
Beng Yang Ong, Business Line Manager Industrial, Energy Products, Singapore
“I’m a business line manager responsible for the certification of commercial products. This means my team is often the last port of call before any product under the commercial umbrella reaches users. One of my proudest moments was when we supported Singapore in their fight against COVID-19. We helped our industry write the safety and quality guidelines for the production and distribution of materials such as nasal swabs and face shields. In the grand scheme of things, I played a small role, but it was an important one with direct impact. Everyone in the world wanted to help somehow – and I was actually able to do that.”
Yeoh Wei Yee, Executive Engineer, Electrical Safety, Singapore
“I am responsible to ensure that electrical and electronic products, such as smart wearables, are safe for use. While new products emerge to further improve our quality of life and increase convenience, my role is to ensure that these new devices meet the safety requirements. Through the rigorous evaluations and testing we do at TÜV SÜD, we leave a mark in the society, build trust and confidence in fellow consumers by ensuring that these new innovations are safely adopted.”

Being on a continuous learning journey and achieving customer satisfaction gives me a strong sense of fulfilment in TÜV SÜD!”
Candy Zhao, Executive Engineer, Singapore
“With technological advancements, my role is no longer just hands-on testing work, but requires the reviewing of documents such as hazard identification, risk analysis, as well as the implementations of the control measures. This ensures that all aspects of possible hazard and harm, from electrical to mechanical, from thermal energy to radiation energy, from material to ergonomic etc. can be identified and mitigated. With the testing and certification of new technologies and products, we allow customers to develop and improve their designs for future products which will add value to the end users. During a time where technology is ever changing, I’m glad my work has paved the way for new innovations.”
