CERTIFICATION MARK FOR INDUSTRIAL AM PRODUCTION SITE

Scope:

The certification mark applies to the 3D printing service expertise of industrial additive manufacturing (AM) centres.

Basis of certification:

The certification mark is awarded within the framework of voluntary testing and certification. ‘Additive Manufacturer’ indicates a production site operating AM machines and offering parts produced by 3D printing, with a focus on premium customer-service quality and part quality as well as health and safety considerations. The quality criteria are defined in the DIN SPEC 17071/ISO/ASTM 52920 standard and are independently audited by TÜV SÜD experts.

The test procedure developed by TÜV SÜD is based on numerous standards such as:

  • AM – cross-technology
    • DIN SPEC 17071/ISO/ASTM 52920 (Guidelines for quality-assured processes at additive manufacturing centres)
    • ISO/ASTM 52901 (Requirements for purchased AM parts)
    • ISO 17296-3 (Main characteristics and corresponding test)
    • ISO/ASTM 52900 & ISO/ASTM 52921 (Terminology for additive manufacturing)
    • ISO/ASTM 52910 (Guidelines for additive manufacturing design)
    • ASTM F2971 (Reporting Data for Test Specimens)
  • AM – technology-specific
    • DIN 35224 (Acceptance inspection of PBF machines)
    • DIN 35225 (Qualification testing of operators for PBF machines)
    • DIN 65123 (Inspection of metallic components)
    • DIN 65124 (Technical Specifications for metallic materials with PBF)
    • VDI 3405 Blatt 1 (Laser sintering of polymer parts – Quality control)
    • VDI 3405 Blatt 2 (Laser beam melting of metallic parts)
    • VDI 3405 Blatt 3 (Design rules for part production using laser sintering and laser beam melting)
    • ASTM F3091/F3091M (Standard Specification for PBF of Plastic Materials)
    • ASTM F3122 (Evaluating Mechanical Properties of Metal Materials)
  • Excerpts from general standards
    • EN ISO 9001 (clause 8 “Operation” and clause 9 “Performance evaluation”)
    • ISO 27001 (clause 4 “Context of the Organization” and clause 5 “Leadership”)
  • Dimensional accuracy
    • ISO 286-1 (Basis of tolerances, deviations and fits)
    • ISO 1101 (Tolerances of form, orientation, location and run-out)
    • DIN EN ISO 1302 (Indication of surface texture in technical product documentation)
  • Test methods
    • EN ISO 60 & 61 (Plastics – Determination of apparent density)
    • ISO 3369 (Impermeable metals – Determination of density)
    • ISO 3923-2 (Metallic powders – Determination of apparent density)

KeyWORDS of the certification mark:

  • QM for AM processes

The service competence for consulting for and production of additive manufactured components is state of the art. Certified companies are able to transfer and comply with requirements for series AM by defining and adhering to (process) parameters.

  • Quality assurance for industrial applications

The manufacturing process (including standard finishing steps) is qualified. Quality assurance measures are derived from this and successfully implemented. This ensures application-oriented part quality and reduces scrap.

  • Reproducible and traceable processes

Reproducibility and traceability of the pre-/in-/post-processes are guaranteed. This includes CAD/CAM data preparation, handling the AM systems (especially loading and unloading), material handling, post-processing of the 3D-printed components, maintenance procedures and expert machine calibration.

  • Controlled material handling

We check the incoming goods of the starting material, followed by the material flow within the production (including preparation and disposal). This results in resilient material characteristics on the 3D-printed material.
