Brazil Authority publishes new Act with updated requirements for IPv6

The Telecommunications Authority in Brazil – ANATEL – publish Act no. 7971 updating technical requirements for IPv6 for products with WWAN, xPON, xDSL, and DOCSIS.

The main changes include:

IPv6 standard changed from RFC 2460 to RFC 8200 for WWAN devices.
For products using WWAN modules already approved by ANATEL where the entire IPv6 protocol is implemented in the WWAN module (not by the host), it is possible to carry out only the IPv6 protocol verification or testing only RFC 8200 would be enough to demonstrate the host meets ANATEL IPv6 requirements.
o Manufacturer will need to sign a declaration informing that the IPv6 protocol is fully integrated in the module.
However, for products that the IPv6 protocol is fully or partially implemented in the host’s software/firmware (e.g., implemented in Operational System), it is required to perform all the IPv6 tests again.

This new Act will come into force on the 8th January 2024.
