Successful 42nd Annual Global Flow Measurement Workshop

25 November 2024

The 42nd year of the annual Global Flow Measurement Workshop (GFMW) brought together over 250 delegates for three days of insightful presentations and networking. This year’s event, which introduced panel discussions for the first time, has received enthusiastic feedback from participants. The panel sessions added a new dimension to the agenda, allowing for in-depth exploration of pressing topics and interactive engagement with industry experts.

We were especially pleased to welcome professionals in the early stages of their careers onto our “An Overview of Flow Metrology and Measurement” training course led by TÜV SÜD Principal Consultant and Global Flow Measurement Chair, Colin Lightbody. It was the first time we offered a training course workshop ticket package to support our ongoing commitment to facilitating professional development and innovation for the continued success of our industry.

The Best Paper Award, voted for by the delegates, went to Christian Hågenvik of Equinor, whose paper explored the relationship between the speed of sound, density, and the isentropic exponent.

The conference finished with a memorable gala dinner which provided a perfect opportunity for delegates to relax and enjoy some traditional Scottish music.

Colin Lightbody expressed his pleasure with the success of his first GFMW as chair:

"As Chair, I couldn't be happier with the 2024 GFMW. Seeing over 250 delegates come together to share knowledge, discuss industry challenges, and connect with one another was truly inspiring. It was also fantastic to welcome those just starting their careers, who bring fresh perspectives and energy to our field. Congratulations to Christian Hågenvik on the Best Paper Award. Thanks to everyone for making this workshop such a success and we look forward to welcoming you to Scotland in 2026."
