New Chair for National Measurement System’s Flow Programme Expert Group Professor Manus Henry of Coventry University has recently been appointed as Chair of the National Measurement System’s Flow Programme Expert Group (PEG) which advises the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) on the UK's Flow Programme. As the UK’s Designated Institute for Flow Measurement, TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory leads this UK National Measurement System (NMS) science programme of activities associated with flow measurement.
Manus posted on LinkedIn:
“These are challenging times, with clear and urgent requirements for new national standard flow facilities and services to support the energy transition agenda (CO2, H2, etc). I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee, at DSIT and at TÜV SÜD, to deliver a dynamic Flow Programme in response to these challenges.”
Martin Hanton, Green Energy & Sustainability Director at TÜV SÜD, welcomed the appointment:
“It’s great to have Manus accept the PEG Chair role as he’s been an important member of the group for a long time offering invaluable help, advice, and support. I’d also like to thank the previous Chair, Professor Bill Dempster of the University of Strathclyde for his past and ongoing guidance in his new role of Deputy Chair. We look forward to continuing to work with Manus, Bill and the other PEG members at such a crucial time in the energy transition agenda as we develop our cutting-edge facilities to support the energy industry with projects such as the High-Pressure Gas Facility providing national standard traceability for gaseous phase CO2.”
TÜV SÜD is also constructing the world’s first primary standard for liquid CO2 as part of a Horizon Europe project after receiving funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Flow Programme. For the hydrogen sector, developments include a world-first facility for testing and calibrating domestic gas meters and small industrial meters, and a portable primary standard for testing hydrogen refuelling stations for dispensed quantity at the nozzle in accordance with OIML R-139.
