What is the Data Protection Trustmark (DPTM) SS 714:2025?

Data Protection Trustmark (DPTM) is Singapore’s official certification standard for demonstrating PDPA compliance and responsible data protection practices, as part of advancing the digital economy strategy to allow Singapore to stand out as a trusted data hub with a well-developed data ecosystem that supports competition and innovation as well as the cross-border flow of data.

Jointly developed by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the DPTM was created as a voluntary, enterprise-wide certification that assesses an organisation’s data protection maturity through a structured data governance audit. In 2025, the DPTM has now been incorporated into Singapore Standards as SS 714:2025, reinforcing its national recognition and credibility.

With this transition, the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) has launched a new accreditation programme under the management system certification body scheme for SS 714:2025, effective from 07 July 2025. Read more here.

Why DPTM SS 714:2025 certification is important

In an ever-changing technology landscape, the need to recognise the importance of protecting a company’s data is paramount. Today, consumers care more about data protection with the increasing scale of data breaches and hacks. To gain consumer confidence and trust, organisations now need to look at how it can better protect customers' data especially in relatively new areas like machine and artificial intelligence.

Benefits of the certification:

  • Build trust with customers and partners: Show that your organisation has implemented robust, accountable data protection practices.
  • Strengthen bid and partnership eligibility: Meet due diligence criteria in tenders, contracts, and high-trust sectors.
  • Mitigate the impact of data breaches: May serve as a mitigating factor under PDPC’s Active Enforcement Framework.
  • Improve internal processes and accountability: Clarify roles, close control gaps, and enhance governance across the data lifecycle.
  • Reinforce long-term regulatory readiness: Certification is valid for three years and includes annual surveillance audits to demonstrate ongoing compliance with DPTM SS 714:2025.
  • Supports Singapore’s Digital Economy: Contributes to Singapore’s vision as a trusted data hub with advanced data ecosystems. Aligns with national standards like DPTM SS 714:2025, reinforcing future-readiness.
