Building Information Modeling (BIM) entails the creation of a detailed, multi-dimensional digital prototype of a building or infrastructure object that has yet to be built. A Building Information Modelling object is a component of the BIM model. BIM objects are intelligent and have a specific geometry. They can store in-depth data that defines the product and geometry, representing the physical characteristics of a product.
The object gets a recognisable appearance from the visualisation data. It also has behavioral data that helps the object position itself or behave exactly like the product.
BIM objects are of two types – component and layered. Component objects have a fixed geometrical shape. They typically have limited and fixed dimensions. On the other hand, layered objects do not have a specific shape or size. Roofs, carpets, walls are all layered components.
One can achieve different Building Information Modelling (BIM) levels for various projects. Every level signifies unique criteria that show specific maturity levels. The levels aim to assess how much information and how effectively the system shares and manages the information during the process.

Level 0 BIM – It involves paper-based drawings + zero collaboration
Level 1 BIM – It includes 2D construction drawings + some amount of 3D modelling
Level 2 BIM – At this level, teams work in their own 3D models
Level 3 BIM – Here, teams work with a shared 3D model
Levels 4, 5, and 6 BIM - It features adding scheduling, cost, and sustainability information
