Ensuring the safety of people and the environment
Worldwide, only 2% of human waste is disposed of safely. While many people lack access to any type of toilet facility, still more use systems that do not provide any type of treatment for the resulting waste. To succeed in changing the world of sanitation and meeting SDG 6, innovators need to show potential users and investors clear, verified evidence that their technologies meet communities’ needs.
TÜV SÜD’s front-line role in coordinating and developing the International Standards ISO 30500 for non-sewered sanitation systems (NSSS) and ISO 31800 for faecal sludge treatment units uniquely positions us to guide and support innovators and manufacturers in achieving certification.
Standards set global benchmarks to ensure the functionality of product and safety of humans and environment. TÜV SÜD led and coordinated the development of two international standards for sanitation innovations (ISO 30500 and ISO 31800). Applying their interdisciplinary know-how and international experience, TÜV SÜD's experts contributed significantly to ensure the safety and reliability of innovative technologies and solutions for various sectors.
Our catalogue of training opportunities which leverage our field experience and technical expertise gives organisations the tools to succeed in the sanitation sector. Developing ISO 30500 and ISO 31800 gave us the expertise to offer the in-depth training on the two standards. Organisations and companies can choose classroom environment or workshop style trainings based on their needs and goals.
As organisations increasingly embed sustainability goals into their missions and visions, TÜV SÜD’s global portfolio provides the expertise to evaluate, design, and support comprehensive sustainability plans and assessments. Combining technical knowledge with unparalleled experience in challenging environments enables us to support organisations to achieve not only greater efficiency and competitiveness but also risk reduction and resilience.
The certification mark is based on the ISO 30500: 2018 standard. This standard defines general safety and performance requirements for design and testing as well as sustainability considerations.
