One stop solution for UVC lights
One stop solution for UVC lights
UV light is electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths shorter than visible light but longer than X-rays. There are three types of ultraviolet light – UVA, UVB and UVC. UVA and UVB are what causes sunburns. Short-wave ultraviolet light (UVC) has the highest energy amongst the types of UV light and it can damage DNA. This is how UVC can sterilize surfaces by damaging the DNA of germs which it comes into contact effectively killing them.
UVC with wavelengths in the range 200nm to 280nm is considered "germicidal UV". UVC light from special germicidal lamps with kills germs, such as bacteria and viruses, and has been used as a means of disinfecting hospital wards and operating theatres for decades.
The effectiveness of germicidal UV depends on the organic matter it’s used on, wavelength of the light, type of suspension, temperature, type of microorganism and UV intensity.
As UV-C is a type of UV light, it has the potential to damage human tissues such as skin and eyes when exposed to UVC light. To ensure that UVC emitting devices are safe to use and meet the conditions required to kill germs, it’s important to have these devices tested to be safe and effective in killing germs. Hence, there are certain guidelines and precaution that needs to be taken care of before such products are introduced to the market.
TÜV SÜD provides a comprehensive range of services for testing UVC lights. Our services are according to relevant international standards to determine the electrical safety, chemical related safety, guidelines of common practice and effectiveness of the UVC-related products.
Electrical safety with applicable test standards
TÜV SÜD provides electrical safety testing services on UVC-related products in accordance to relevant international standards, depending on the intended application of products.
UV Irradiance measurement
TÜV SÜD provides UV Irradiance measurement based on IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety Of Lamps And Lamp Systems (respective clauses) based on specified distance from the light source. Additional note that test acceptance is only applicable to UVC light source of 254nm peak without ozone emission.
UV antibacterial efficiency
TÜV SÜD provide the customized test method in accordance to EN 1040 Chemical Disinfectants and RoHS to measure the known bacteria concentration for a specified period of time and distance. Upon that, measurement on surviving bacteria concentration shall be performed after certain exposure time.
Our experts can help you meet necessary requirements for your UVC emitting products. As a single source for testing and certification compliance of related UVC product types, our comprehensive capabilities simplify the process, allowing manufacturers to bring new and advanced products to market quickly and efficiently.
