UN DOT 38.3 Testing for Battery

Lithium Batteries Testing Under UN/DOT 38.3

Ensure safety of your batteries during shipping

Ensure safety of your batteries during shipping

Why is lithium batteries testing important?

Lithium batteries provide a reliable and cost-effective power source for a wide range of electrical and electronic products. However, safety concerns still exist, especially in instances where battery inventories are transported via aircraft. These concerns have led to increased attention to the potential dangers of transporting lithium batteries, and mandatory requirements for manufacturers of lithium batteries and devices powered by lithium batteries.

EIGHT TESTS OF TEST UNDER CRITERIA SECTION 38.3

Test T1: Altitude simulation – This test simulates air transport under low-pressure conditions.

Test T2: Thermal Test – This test assesses cell and battery seal integrity and internal electrical connections. The test is conducted using rapid and extreme temperature changes.

Test T3: Vibration – This test simulates vibration during transportation.

Test T4: Shock – This test simulates rough handling during transport.

Test T5: External short circuit – This test simulates conditions resulting in an external short circuit.

Test T6: Impact/Crush – These tests simulate mechanical abuse from an impact or crush that may result in an internal short circuit.

Test T7: Overcharge – This test evaluates the ability of a rechargeable battery or a single cell rechargeable battery to withstand an overcharge condition.

Test T8: Forced discharge – This test evaluates the ability of a primary or a rechargeable cell to withstand a forced discharge condition.
