Officially known as Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, was adopted on June 14, 2023, and replaces the previous Directive 2006/42/EC.
Scope: The new EU Machinery Regulation applies to machinery, interchangeable equipment, safety components, lifting accessories, chains, ropes, webbing, and partly completed machinery. Certain types of equipment, like motor vehicles and specific amusement park machinery, are excluded.
New Technologies: The regulation addresses new technologies such as autonomous mobile machinery, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring that these technologies meet safety standards.
Uniform Application: Unlike the previous directive, this regulation is directly applicable in all EU member states, ensuring uniform implementation and avoiding discrepancies in national laws.
Market Surveillance: It aims to strengthen market surveillance and legal certainty, reducing administrative burdens and increasing trust in new technologies.
