Helping you to understand the complex requirements for UKCA marking
UKCA marking (UK Conformity Assessed marking) is the UK product marking requirement that will be needed for products being placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), substituting the EU requirements for CE Marking (CE marking will continue to be accepted in Northern Ireland). UKCA marking can be used now to replace the CE Marking requirements.
If you are placing manufactured goods on the market in Great Britain, the introduction of the new UKCA mark presents the challenge of ensuring compliance with a new conformity assessment mark. If you are placing manufactured goods on the Northern Ireland market, there are separate requirements to consider.
The UKCA marking will apply to most goods currently subject to CE marking and although the technical requirements you must meet will be largely the same as they are now, there is still a lot of preparation required.
While the UKCA mark can be applied from 1st January 2021, a transition period has been established allowing the CE mark to still be accepted in the UK until 1st January 2022.
For people wishing to place their products on the GB and/or NI market after 31st December 2020 there are still a lot of unanswered questions and misleading information. TÜV SÜD’s UKCA Technical Advisory Service can help you to understand the complex requirements for UKCA marking and how you should be preparing for the UKCA mark. Please note, in order to prevent any conflict of interest, the Technical Advisory Service does not apply to medical devices.
